History of Anderson & Reinhart

The original office on West Street in the 1940s (second floor of white building on right, today occupied by a small park)

Marvin I. Anderson (1900-1987) opened his practice on West Street in 1927. His career included service to the community as the elected States Attorney for Anne Arundel County for three terms before being appointed (as the sole Judge) to the Circuit Court for Anne Arundel County in 1948. Finding that he enjoyed the practice of law more than the role of Judge, he returned to private practice. During the 1950s, he also served as county attorney and a delegate to the Maryland Constitutional Convention. His legal practice shaped Anne Arundel County. In 1959, his son, Marvin H. Anderson, joined him in the practice of law. Anderson and Anderson opened in the newly renovated 92 Franklin Street in offices that continue to serve the firm to this day. The younger Marvin Anderson, who is also known as "Bud", became assistant county solicitor to Anne Arundel County, elected States Attorney for Anne Arundel County from 1963-1967, and a delegate to the General Assembly from 1968 through 1971. After leaving politics, he continued in the private practice of law, amassing over 50 years of practical legal experience in a broad cross section of complex trials and transactions. He has also provided service to his church and the community, especially furthering efforts to preserve various historic buildings throughout Anne Arundel County. The elder Marvin Anderson's second son, Richard G. Anderson, joined the firm in the 1960’s. Richard served as the assistant city attorney for the City of Annapolis during the late 1970s and volunteered time with organizations in the Annapolis community before health issues led him into an early retirement.

Marvin H. Anderson continued as a solo practicioner, handling hundreds of estates and real estate transactions from 1983 until his daughter, Julia Anderson Reinhart, joined him in practice in 1999. The firm became known as Anderson & Reinhart, LLP. Nicholas T. Nagey joined the practice in 2012 to expand the firm's traditional areas of practice and develop new areas.
